John
Perkins
John
comes to The Orlando Chorale from four and a half years of service
as Executive Director of Federal City Performing Arts Association
in Washington, D.C., an organization encompassing choral, dance
and musical theatre ensembles. He previously served in senior management
positions in Washington with the Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation,
Trade Communications Inc., the National Association of Student Personnel
Administrators, and George Washington University where he served
for many years as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.
Orlando
is John's adopted home town, having originally moved here when he
was five years old and subsequently graduating from William R. Boone
High School. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music
History and Literature from Florida State University. While in Tallahassee
John produced and directed music, informational and variety programs
for WFSU-FM and TV. He was also Music and Sound Director for the
inaugural season of the State Theatre of Florida at the Aslo Theatre
in Sarasota. After a short college faculty stint in the metropolitan
New York City area, he served two years in the U.S. Army during
the Vietnam War.
From
the Orlando Little Theatre (long gone), to Tallahassee's Le Moyne
Art Foundation, to D.C.'s Friends of Opera in Washington, John has
always been involved in the life of his community. He recently served
on the Mayor of Washington's Advisory Committee on GLBT Affairs,
and on the Boards of Directors of the Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry
and the Wolf Trap Park Foundation for the Performing Arts Associates.
For the past several years he has also served as organizational
consultant for the Orlando Children's Chorus.
